Upward Bound Gift Fund
Upward Bound (UB) is a college preparatory program designed to support low-income and first-generation students in their journey toward higher education. The program focuses on building the academic skills and personal foundation needed for college success. We are committed to helping students graduate from high school with a strong GPA and the required coursework to ensure college readiness. Additionally, the program provides ongoing support to participants, guiding them through college enrollment and ultimately helping them achieve their college degrees. UB is federally funded and also relies on individual donations to help students succeed.
Since the merger between Mills College and Northeastern University in 2022, Upward Bound has continued as a program of the Mills Institute. It is a vital part of the Oakland Unified School District and the West Contra Costa Unified School District. With 60 years of experience in Oakland and 20 years working with West Contra Costa, the program continues to foster strong relationships with students and their families, aiming to equip participants with the skills, confidence, and motivation necessary to graduate from college and succeed in their future endeavors.
