Honor Society - Sigma Xi

The purpose of Sigma Xi, the International Scientific Research Honor Society, is to enhance the health of the research enterprise, foster integrity in science and engineering, and promote the public’s understanding of science for the purpose of improving the human condition. Besides, our chapter aims to foster a love of research in younger students with minimal research experience. We aim to provide support and community for students with more substantial research experience. Finally, we want to recognize, honor, and celebrate undergraduate student researchers at Northeastern University.

We have two primary audiences for this chapter of Sigma Xi: older students with substantial independent research, and younger students who want to become more involved in research but who have not yet done independent research. Students with substantial research are well suited to become an

Associate Member of Sigma Xi, and students who want to become more involved in research are well suited to becoming part of the Immerse Program. Activities for Associate Members include: attending a bi-weekly chapter meeting, Coffee Talks where several Associate Members gather to discuss their research, meetings to improve public speaking and slide creation, meetings about research awards and grants to apply to, and meetings with research faculty to gain advice and insight.

Activities for Immerse Program members include: attending bi-weekly workshops that teach them how to conduct research, completing monthly assignments on their proposed research topic, and presenting their research at RISE.
